A week without code

A week without code

This summer was certainly rich in code - I created my website, gained Front End Certification via Free Code Camp, completed Coursera Full Stack Specialization Courses that focuses on MEAN Stack working and developing websites for clients at the same time. Last week was a first one in 1.5 years without writing a single line of code.

Usually I code everyday completing various exercises, creating websites and working my own solutions for different problems (like img-swap - which I’ll write about soon). Having a lot to do everyday means that there’s plenty of things I-want-to-do-but-don’t-have-time-to. Those things are usually what I do during the holidays. That leads to lack of time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and relax.

Not this time

This year we chose a city called Olbia located in Sardegna, Italy since our friend moved there last year. We booked an apartment on AirBnB, found the cheapest flight and on we went with our holidays. Shamefully I have to admit - I read about 50 pages of Clean Code on an airplane but nothing more than that.

I didn’t make plans to do something, nor set any goals. I turned off my laptop on Sunday, took my DSLR and went for the week of fun. Beautiful beaches, tasty wine, delicious food and interesting marine life were all of my concerns. On top of that our apartment had no WiFi which meant no time wasted on browsing the marvelous wonders of internet.

100% Relaxation

My days are packed with work, all day and everyday I do something, lately that something is connected to code. The constant ambition to learn more mixed with frustration of learning too slowly can be exhausting for some but I thrive on that. Still, it’s important to remember that we sometimes need to take a break.

Spending a care-free week on a breath-taking Italian island was what I really needed. I came back with a fresh mind ready to take any challenges that may come my way.
