So what exactly is Summer of Code? I’ve been coding now for a full year, both at work and at home as a hobby. At the same time I’ve struggled to finish first degree of my studies. Today was my last exam, and it’s time to start a new chapter in my life.

In september I’ll start my master degree in IT, which is something I haven’t done before (I studied Law and Economics). The switch I made is done due to finding my new passion – programming.

This summer is my opportunity to „step up my game”, learn new skills in order to make my transition a bit easier.

My plan

Okay. This summer I have 90 days to learn as much as I can. Main goal this summer is taking advantage of MEAN Stack, which stands for MongoDB, Express.js, Angular.js and Node.js in order to be able to build web applications.

During this summer I need to complete my Front-End Developer Certification in Free Code Camp program (all I need to do so far is build a Pomodoro Clock and Simple JS Game).

After completing this certification I will proceed with Back-end Certification and Full Stack Web Developer Specialization at Hong Kong University of Technology (I’ve already completed 2 out of 6 courses).

At the same time I continue to work as a web developer at my current job and complete other week–2-week tasks:

First task was completing this WordPress theme build from scratch (check it out on GitHub).

Next I’ll move on to completing my Free Code Camp Front-end Certification, and refresh my portfolio at the same time. After that I start a Coursera course on Angular.js, and continue with Back-end Certification with Free Code Camp. The rest of summer will probably be composed of creating different web applications using MEAN Stack and writing bunch of different articles for the blog.
